storyboard

My animations are mainly made in An. Their form of expression is inspired by a traditional Chinese folk art—shadow puppetry—and I want to tell stories through shadows. Therefore, my camera remains fixed at all times, and the characters are rigged in advance. I can only move them and make them perform by manipulating their joints. This way of creating makes me feel less like an animator and more like a puppeteer—controlling the characters’ every move from behind the scenes and, as it were, taking part in their stories. I find this very interesting, and I really enjoy the process.
